What is Keartamen?

I’m Michael Kearney, and Keartamen is the home of my Certamen-related tournaments, projects, and resources.

For a bit of background on me: I attended Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 2012 to 2016, playing four years of Certamen and winning the Advanced championship at the NJCL Convention my senior year. After graduation, I attended Yale University, where I thrice directed Yale Certamen and became an active question writer.

In April 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I hosted the Certamen Mini-League (CML), an online Advanced-level tournament for teams across the country. CML, organized on only three weeks’ notice, was made possible only by the incredible generosity of writers and moderators from across the country, who provided the questions and time necessary to host. Ultimately, CML proved popular and successful, drawing 47 teams from 11 states and proving the viability of online Certamen.

I have since hosted six more tournaments: Keartamen 2 (K2), K-ἀγών, Keartamen 3 (K3), K-ἀγών 2, Keartamen 4 (K4), and Keartamen 5 (K5) + K5/Agon.

More generally, this website is intended as a repository for the questions and resources that I have produced over my career. It is open-access, so that all may hopefully benefit from them.
